Ambikapur is a city in the Surguja district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is the District headquarters of Surguja district, the largest district of Chhattisgarh. It is also the divisional Headquarter of Ambikapur Division which consists of 3 districts namely- Sarguja, Korea and Jashpur. It was the capital of Princely state of Surguja before Indian independence. The name of the city is derived from the goddess Ambika (Mayamaya) Devi, which is the central place of workship of the area.
